Omkareshwar

Omkareshwar. It is on an island called Mandhata or Shivapuri in the Narmada river. The shape of the island is said to be like the Hindu Om symbol , not sure if it holds true after the dam now.

There are two temples here, one to Omkareshwar (means "OM-maker-lord") and one to Amareshwar (means "immortal lord" or "lord of the immortals"). Narmda is one of the most sacred rivers of India, there is a saying that a dip in Ganga will rid you of all the sins, just the darshan of Narmada has that power. Mamleshwara is the old original temple just opposite to Omkareshwar temple. Both should be visited specially Mamleshwara to get the feel of that past world.

Some of the boat ride photos of my last visit to Omkareshwar in July 09.
